Here is our extended look at the new 4K UHD Blu-ray release of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy – The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King. Is this a release worthy of the spectacular 4K format? Is it worth adding to your shelf? That Shelf Managing Editor Jason Gorber goes there and back again with this
Severe skipping, and then it freezes. The disc is brand new. Our 4K Blu-ray player is a Sony UBP-X700. Other 4K Blu-rays play perfectly, so far it’s just the extended LOTR that has problems. But then we tried the same disc in our Sony PlayStation 5…. no skips, plays perfectly. Obviously this is an expensive fix, but if you have a PS5, give
While the individual scenes added into the extended editions are interesting, as a whole their inclusion slows down the momentum of the movies. In an interview back in 2003, Jackson said that he thought the theatrical releases were the definitive versions of the film, and that the extended editions were "novelties" made for Lord of the Rings 8 Aragorn At His Mother's Gravestone. In another extended scene in Rivendell, Aragorn is seen in front of a gravestone when he is approached by Elrond. Elrond tells him that "she wanted to protect her child." She thought in Rivendell, he "would be safe." This confirms that Aragorn was visiting his mother’s grave.
I've actually watched the movies through before , just never the extended editions. I'm sure the movies don't cut off at the same at as the book volumes , but the movies won't spoil much for me. I'm using the movies as kind of a benchmark for completing 21 hours of audiobook haha
The Extended Editions of 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy all earn perfect marks, with no regret or nitpicks. The most thunderous element after these three tracks played was the sound of my applause for a job more than well done.
The theatrical Blu-ray version of The Lord of the Rings was released in the United States in April 2010. The individual disc of Two Towers was released in September 2010 with the same special features as the complete trilogy release, minus digital copy. The extended Blu-ray editions were released in the US and Canada in June 2011.
